What qualifications do i need to become an interior designer?

If you're interested in becoming an interior designer, there are certain qualifications you need to demonstrate your skillset and show that you're capable of delivering quality designs. Interior designers create the look and feel of various living spaces, both homes and commercial spaces. They must have a creative eye as well as knowledge in construction and project management.

Generally, an interior design degree from an accredited college or university is required to become an interior designer. You can choose from a variety of programs including Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Interior Design or Bachelor of Architecture degrees depending on the path you'd like to take. Most interior design degrees focus on developing knowledge in the areas of color theory, furniture design, material selection, drawing techniques and more.

In addition to a degree in interior design, some aspiring designers gain experience through internships or volunteer activities at home improvement stores or small architectural firms. Here they learn hands-on techniques while gaining insight into the industry. This type of experience helps budding designers stand out when applying for jobs.

The National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) holds aspiring designers to a high professional standard by requiring candidates to pass two sets of exams before they can become certified professionals.Each exam tests your wealth knowledge across various subfields such as codes & standards construction and project management system sustainability ,and professional practice topics like state & local laws & regulations business principles ,and ethics.
